Booze Cruise
Booze Cruise
An anaerobic natural produced by Diego Robelo at Aquiares in Turrialba, Costa Rica. Deep fruit from purple grapes and cherry praline comes first, with generous brown-sugar sweetness sitting on a round body. A slightly boozy note lingers at the finish — an easy-going, very drinkable cup.
At Aquiares, coffee growing and the local community have developed together for generations, and the coffee grows among protected forests, springs and streams. Diego took over from his father Alfonso and keeps exploring new varieties and processing methods. This lot grows at 1,200m on the slopes of the Turrialba volcano. The variety is Centroamericano H1, a cross of Sarchimor T-5296 and the rare Sudan Rume, combining leaf-rust resistance with the potential for a complex cup. Whole cherries ferment in an oxygen-limited environment and are then dried with the fruit intact, pushing the cup towards darker, richer fruit.
